I just watched and enjoyed this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, "Voyage of the Damned". No story spoilers, but I think head writer Russell T Davies wrote a satisfying story for a Christmas special with some fun references to the previous two specials. Kylie Minogue had a nice guest starring turn as companion Astrid and of course David Tennant is always good as the Tenth Doctor.

I loved Murray Gold's new arrangement of Ron Grainer's theme music, which sounds positively Wagnerian with its bombastic pounding of tympani and crashing of cymbals. I wonder if it was just for the special or if they'll keep it for the new season?

It was a nice touch to dedicate the episode to the memory of the late Verity Lambert, the original producer of Doctor Who from 1963 to 1965. She died on November 22nd, a day before the show's 44th anniversary.
